Mumbai: The City of Dreams

Previously known as Bombay, Mumbai is one of the most well-known cities in India. The city itself has many faces and names. It is the perfect mix of modernism and historical significance and it is still ever changing. This is the reason Mumbai has something for everyone as such many people fulfil their dreams here. From rags to riches, nobody to somebody, from a spot-boy to an actor, many a dream has come true in this city thus Mumbai lovers call it The City Of Dreams. 

Mumbai has everything for the tourists that throng to it throughout the year. It’s a versatile land which has beaches and hills, historic monuments as well as modern architecture, glamorous lifestyle and has one of the best nightlife experiences and this magnificent city never sleeps. It also has exquisite temples, churches, synagogues and mosques for your spiritual well being. Mumbai evolves daily thru it’s modernizing, but yet has a historical significance. Such is the diversity of Mumbai.

Climate
Due to Mumbai being on the coast, its climate is very hot and humid and can be termed as subtropical climate. Summers here are hot and humid and the rainy season can be a hindrance to explore the city.  The best time to visit Mumbai is between September to March.

Mumbai is the second largest city in India with a population of 1.84 crores and is still increasing day by day. It is also the business capital of India.

Home of Bollywood
The Hindi film industry is based in Mumbai and is called Bollywood. Bollywood produces about thousand films and most of their stars reside in Mumbai, making “Star” gazing Mumbaikars’ favourite pastime.

Bandra-Worli sea link

The Sea Link connects the parts of Worli and Bandra together. The bridge was one of the newest editions to Mumbai’s famous landmarks. The bridge itself is breathtaking to look and also is nice to take pictures of the city. This is held up with the help of support cables and strong concrete pillars. As you drive down the bridge you can view the city on one side and the Arabian sea on the other. The Sea link bridge makes it the perfect destination to capture pictures of the city in all its glory.

Gateway of India

Mumbai’s most famous landmark, the Gateway of India was built in 1927 to welcome King George V and Queen Mary and later the final group of British troops left India through here. It is also a famous tourist spot and people can catch boat rides from here to Elephanta caves.

Religious Sites

Mumbai’s populace is a mix of many religions. It has many famous religious sites, churches, temples, mosques, synagogues and etc. The ancient Mumba Devi temple, Siddhivinayak temple, and the ISKON temple are a must to visit 

Mount Mary Church is a Roman Catholic Church, dedicated to ‘Mother Mary’, located in Mumbai. The ancient church, built in 1640 and then restored in 1761, is also called as ‘The Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount’. What makes this church even more stunning is that it’s situated on the top of a hill called ‘Sunderban Bandra’, which overlooks the Arabian Sea.

Haji Ali Dargah is an ancient landmark in Mumbai, in the middle of theHaji Ali Bay. It is constructed with a blend of Indo-Islamic architecture and was built in the memory of the Sufi saint, Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. It a very famous pilgrimage site for Muslims.

Marine Drive

This beautiful 3-kilometer long road is famous for having the Arabian Sea all along on one side. The curved shape of this road, combined with the beautiful lighting at night that looks like diamonds, has earned Marine Drive the title of ‘Queen’s Necklace’. A drive on this road is surreal and makes you feel as though you are in a different place altogether. The road is lined with a lot of classy eating joints which are very popular all over Mumbai.

Street Markets

Possibly, the greatest crowd pullers in Mumbai are the well-known street markets. Out of the many markets lining various streets all over the city, the ones deserving a special mention are – Crawford Market, Colaba Causeway, Linking Road, and Fashion Street. They are famous for providing everything that you could dream of. Be it fashionable junk jewellery, stylish clothes, electronic items or even home decor items, these markets have it all.

Beaches

A beach in the middle of the city, how good does that sound? Well, Mumbai not only makes it sound good but also look amazing. Populated by thousands of people every day, the Mumbai beaches are a very happening spot. The roadside food stalls, live shows, and interactive activities make it a truly memorable experience. The most popular beaches are – Juhu Beach, Aksa Beach and Chowpatty.

Ganesh Chaturthi

On the day of Ganpati visarjan, you’ll find yourself surrounded by thousands of devotees, who sing and dance to drum beats during the procession. All main roads remain closed on the day so prepare to walk. Chowpatty beach at Marine Drive is devotees’ favourite. During the day you will witness many models of Ganesh going towards the beach with each one being different and special.

Wankhede Stadium

This grand cricket stadium was constructed in 1975 and renovated for the 2011 cricket world cup. It holds a special place in the heart of cricket crazy Indians as India won the 2011 ODI world cup. It is also home ground of the Mumbai Indians {which is a franchise in the IPL}. This stadium is very special in its own way as when you are inside cheering for your team due to it being so compact it is like an inferno of emotions inside and that’s why it is said that the home team here when playing has an extra man that being the fans its.

There are numerous tourist attractions in Mumbai. Gateway of India, Flora Fountain, Mani Bhavan, Historical sites, archaeological sites, religious sites, and natural wonders; the list is endless for its visitors. This island city is stuffed with monuments, museums, gardens, amusement parks, and beaches, offering countless attractions to explore. Here in Mumbai, you’ll find every awesome place to visit, from Beaches to Bollywood, from the Slums to the Sky Scrappers, and from the Bazaars to the Malls. You would surely want to capture some pictures of places like Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Elephanta Caves and preserve them forever.
